Lakshmi Rai refutes relationships with cricketers
The internet is abuzz with the images of Lakshmi Rai along with the tainted cricketer Sreesanth. A few images of the actress along with the cricketer have been doing the rounds on the internet in the last week.
But when quizzed the actress about it, she claims that those images were taken when the duo had shot for a television commercial a few years ago. The Mankatha actress feels that it was not right to use those stills when there is a raging controversy on the cricketer. The actress feels that a woman shouldn't be needlessly dragged into a controversy as it can affect her image in the public.
She added that she was involved in the IPL in the beginning stage in a professional capacity and that she doesn't have a personal relationship with any of the cricketers.

Rajinikanth impressed by Baadshah
Ever heard of one Baasha praising another? Well, Superstar Rajinikanth seems to have been quite impressed by Junior NTR's commercial potboiler Baadshah.
Rajinikanth is known to keep abreast of the latest releases in the industry; especially the impressive ones. A case in point being Junior NTR's super hit commercial entertainer Baadshah. The film directed by Srinu Vaitla has raked in the moolah both across the country and overseas.
Superstar Rajinikanth seems to have called the makers of the film and had appreciated their work. We also hear that the Superstar had urged them to remake the film in Tamil.

AR Rahman turns scriptwriter
Post his picking up the Academy Awards for Slumdog Millionaire, music composer AR Rahman spends a part of his time in LA, composing music for Hollywood films. He has also acquired a keen sense of script and we have learnt that he started writing scripts three years ago. In fact, such is the music whiz's interest in filmmaking that he also learnt script-writing in LA. He has currently finished two full-fledged scripts and has also narrated the same to producers in Bollywood.
What's interesting is that they have agreed to produce the films. While we could not get further details because things are still under negotiation, one can vouch for the fact that Rahman being the creative genius that he is, his script-writing will also be as evolved as his music is.

Dhanush, KV Anand team up
While it was widely reported that director KV Anand was one of the top contenders to do a film with Rajinikanth post Kochadaiiyan, the latest news is that he will actually team up with the superstar's son-in-law Dhanush.
The Kolaveri star tweeted recently, "Yes guys...much 2 d delight of u all and myself i am doing a film with k v anand sir.the technicians are yet 2 be finalised. Shoot 4m august."
The director, whose last release was Suriya's Maattrraan, has been working on several scripts in the past few months. Instead of the routine practice of getting a star's dates and a producer first, the filmmaker has been in the process of finalizing the storyline first.

I have a small and cute role, says Priyanka Kothari
Back in 2003, a certain 'Amoga' entered Kollywood as the leading lady in the Madhavan-starrer Jay Jay. And today, the actress, who now calls herself Priyanka Kothari, is looking forward to the release of her film Karimedu.
Based on real-life incidents related to the Dandupalya gang, Karimedu revolves around the crimes committed and the way people were treated. Priyanka plays a pregnant woman in the film and this guest appearance is, as she puts it, a "small and cute role."
She says, "The Kannada film did well, and I'm expecting its Tamil version to be successful too. We shot for the talkie portions and two songs in Mysore. I play the victim of the gang and the character, though small, has a lot of weight. The entire unit and team was wonderful to work with."
So, why has it been a while since the actress was last seen in a Kollywood film? "In time, Tamil cinema will see more of me. I like the subjects done here, and the way they are picturized. I'd love to star in Tamil films, provided I get a good offer and storyline," she adds.
Her last appearance in a Tamil film was in a dance number, in Jiiva's Kacheri Arambam. Ask her if she'll do another such number in the future, and she says, "Well, if it's a good song, I will take it up."

Ajith shoots despite fever
Thala Ajith is known for his professionalism. The actor proved that yet again on the sets of director Vishnuvardhan's film, where he shot for the film in Kullu Manali despite being nursing high temperature and back spasms.
Ajith, is also known for his love for biking and driving. We hear that the actor drove himself from Delhi to Manali for the shoot, which is roughly about 550 km. The terrain is said to be a tricky one for drivers, but at the same time the drive through the long way offers many scenic views. We hear that Ajith took approximately around 9 and half hours to reach the destination and that this may have led to Ajith's back pains on arrival. Nonetheless, the shooting took place as planned.

'CSK' not just about cricket
Director C Sathiyamoorthy, who is directing upcoming Tamil thriller titled 'CSK - Life Is Not A Game', says the film is not about cricket, but the game does have an important part in the film. Produced by C Srinivasan, the film features Sharran Kumar, Narayan, Vimal, Jai Quehaeni and Mishal. The film is nearing completion and is likely to be released soon.
"It's a thriller story at heart, but the protagonist is an ambitious cricketer who aspires to play for the Chennai Super Kings ( CSK, the Indian Premier League) team. Since the hero is passionate about cricket, I decided to use the name CSK for the title to have a Chennai connect," said Sathiyamoorthy.
"CSK in the film are the first letters of the names of three key characters - Charles, Shafiq and Karthika. The story revolves around the events that take place in the lives of these characters," he added.
Asked if he chose the title to create buzz around the film, he said: "I chose it because it had an association with the story. By simply having the title CSK won't create any buzz, but it may definitely draw attention."

Cannes canned, but will it be a Japanese premiere for Kochadaiiyan?
Superstar Rajinikanth might not have gone to Cannes as was originally planned, but work on his upcoming Kochadaiiyan is in progress, with the trailer of the film slated to be released soon.
So, why didn't Rajini head to Cannes? "We were initially planning to go there, but we wanted to ensure that the trailer was cut well and in the best format. That was taking time. So, we have rescheduled it and will be releasing the trailer soon," informs producer Murali Manohar. The director of the film, Soundarya Rajinikanth, had tweeted, "Trailer shaping out well. Working on more surprises... All efforts are going in to release it asap. (sic)"
Post-production work on the period flick is taking place simultaneously in Chennai, China and London. Meanwhile, the buzz is that either the film's audio launch or its premiere will be held in Japan, considering the fact that the actor has a huge fan following there.
Oscar winner A R Rahman, who is the music composer for the film, will start work on the background score soon and it's said that one of the songs, which has Rajinikanth crooning after a long time, will be the highlight of the music album. Interestingly, this special number will also be part of the making-of-the-movie video that will be released by the team soon.

Pooja's gamble pays off
After making a name for herself in Sanadalwood, actress Pooja Gandhi is back in KTown with Karimedu. The Tamil version of the Kannada hit, Dandupalya, is being produced by Rama Narayanan, for Sri Thenandal Films & Apple Blossom Creations Pvt Ltd.
"The movie has had a fantastic run in Karnataka, and the Telugu version completed 100 days in Andhra Pradesh recently. I'm sure the Tamil version, Karimedu, will also strike a chord with the audience," says Pooja. "The film is based on real-life incidents related to the Dandupalya gang, and touches upon the heinous crimes and the way people are treated."
Pooja, who has earlier appeared in a couple of Tamil films including Kokki and Thiruvannamalai, says that many people discouraged her from taking on this film. "I've played glamorous roles in my earlier films, and I had to go de-glam for this one. Also, my character is quite intense and, at times, a little crass. Many warned me that this could be the last film of my career and that I was doing a big mistake by signing it on. I was scared initially, but I knew it would be challenging to pull off the role. I took three months to decide what I wanted to do. But then, I took the risk, and the gamble paid off," she smiles.
Ask her what's the biggest compliment she's received for her performance in the film, and she says, "Those who discouraged me were the first ones to congratulate me after the film released. They said I'd played the role of an oppressed with aplomb."

Nithya Menon to essay Rima’s role
Nithya to essay Rima’s roleIt was reported earlier that actor-producer Rajkumar will be remaking Aashiq Abu's 22 Female Kottayam ( 22FK) in Tamil and Telugu, to be directed by his wife and actress Sreepriya. Now, the two confirm that Nithya Menen will play the lead role, played by Rima Kallingal in the original, in both Tamil and Telugu.
"We felt that Nithya Menen would be the best person to play the role, as she is well-known in all south film industries. Initially, she was hesitant to take up the role, but when she learnt that it was a woman director who would handle the subject in a sensitive manner, she agreed to do the film," says Rajkumar.
However, they are yet to zero in on the male lead, played by Fahadh Faasil. Apparently, most actors are reluctant to take up such a character with negative shades.

Vijay - ARM movie to begin Pongal 2014
After their successful super-hit film 'Thuppakki', Vijay and A R Murugadoss are expected to come together once again as early as January 2014 for their next flick. The buzz earlier was that the director would soon be joining hands with Thala Ajith for his next, but looks like the director has teamed with Ilayathalapathy Vijay for the flick.
With Thalaivaa completely wrapped up and Jilla proceeding at brisk pace, Vijay is set to join with his Thuppakki director in January. Meanwhile A R Murugadoss who is currently busy shooting Thuppakki in Hindi with Akshay Kumar seems to be simultaneously working with his assistant Directors in tightening the script for Vijay.
It is widely believed that this is the same script that was originally developed for Ajith to act in a double role. We will have to wait and watch whether Vijay will play dual roles in this upcoming project. Vijay has tentatively agreed and cleared his dates for this movie starting in 2014.

Siva Karthikeyan, who had a humble beginning in the industry, is one of the most sought-after actors in the industry, today. But not many know that this actor has also completed an engineering course.
Apparently, the actor, along with his friends had created a face recognition software during his college days as a part of the curriculum, built on 'C' platform. Though the actor had scored 198 out of 200 for his project, when the external examiner came for the review, he took the software programme with him. However, the actor says that he is least bothered about it as he was looking to make money in his chosen career of films.

Siddharth and Sam's sparkling chemistry
All eyes were on Siddharth and Samantha, who turned up for an awards function held in the city recently. The duo once again raised eyebrows with their sparkling chemistry at a public appearance. Siddharth surprised the audience by singing a bunch of melodious love songs at the event. When he sang the Ennavale... number from Kadahalan, many noticed Samantha blushing. And, when Sam went to receive her award, Sid was a proud man as well. The two seemed to be quite comfortable with the crowd cheering whenever they were captured on camera together. Though they have not openly spoken about their relationship so far, onlookers felt that they looked very much like a couple.
Karthi in talks for Siruthai 2
Karthi, whose last release was Alex Pandian, has made it clear that he will not be acting for the sake of awards. The actor said that he was open to doing any kind of character and believed that the accolades that he receives from the audience would be more than enough to the actor, rather than receiving an award or trophy.
Karthi is currently shooting for Rajesh's All in All Azhagu Raja in Pollachi district and has revealed that he has discussed the possibility of a sequel to Siruthai with the director of the original, Siva. Siva, on the other hand is busy with the shoot for his next film with Ajith.
In the meantime, Karthi has wrapped up the shoot for Venkat Prabhu's Biriyani and the trailer of the film is expected to hit screens soon.

Vikram to do a quickie?
That Vikram and Bala might be joining hands again is what we'd told you earlier.Word now has it that the two might go in for a quickie, given that the actor has time on his hands, with Shankar instructing him to lose weight before the last schedule shoot for 'I' commences.
Sources say that the Paradesi filmmaker has been holding talks with Vikram but things are yet to be finalized. A source close to Vikram says, "Bala and Vikram have been discussing for a while about teaming up for a project. If it gets finalized, Vikram might work on this film in between the shoots of Shankar's film."
The source adds, "Vikram has to take a month-long break between each schedule of 'I'. If he commits to do a film with Bala, he will shoot a quick schedule for a month and will continue the rest of the shoot after the completion of 'I' in November. As he is getting a lot of time between his shoot schedules of Shankar's film, Vikram is mulling over the possibility of doing a new project during the breaks between his shoot schedules."
With their previous filmi outings in Sethu and Pithamagan, both of which did well at the BO, the duo is considered a hit combination in K-town. A source close to director Bala says, "Yes, it's true that Bala wants to cast Vikram in his next. Discussions are on currently."

Akon goes desi, does a kuthu jig!
Akon's recent whirlwind visit to Chennai was about all things Indian. The R&B superstar — in the country to record and perform for Kollywood actor Simbu's Love Anthem — looked every bit the local, dressed in a traditional south Indian vesthi, as he tried a kuthu dance.
"For one of the lines from the song — Pyar Prema Kadhal... — I wanted Akon to do a kuthu step in a traditional costume that'd surely appeal to audiences. When I told him that, he said, 'You wear the costume; If I like it, I'll do it.' When I wore it and stood in front of him, he exclaimed, 'Wow, this is so cool'. His wife also liked it and so, we went ahead with it," says Simbu. The music video, choreographed by Brinda, was directed by Vignesh Shiva and Nelson.
Akon, we hear, loved the steps and spent time to learn them. A source, who was present on the set, says, "Akon watched some Tamil kuthu songs to get the steps right. Once he was on the dance floor, he kept improvising and surprised everyone."
That's not all; the Smack That singer also tucked into some Indian cuisine. Says Simbu, "Oh yes, I wanted him to have biryani, and ensured that it was specially made. He loved it. He was also very curious to know about movies and music made in India."
The Love Anthem, which features lyrics in languages from across the world, will be released in the US, and Akon will be a part of the launch function as well. "He immediately agreed to grace the occasion," says Simbu, adding, "For me, it's a dream come true. Despite being an international superstar, he was very cooperative and supported us thoroughly during the song recording and shoot."

For this number, it was his wish to try out an international dance style, and he came up with this idea."
